Cibus has an immediate opening for a Research Specialist to help us to revolutionize plant breeding.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a M.S. degree in Biological Sciences or in a related discipline with a minimum of 3-4 years’ experience in a research and/or development environment and demonstrated working knowledge of recombinant protein production/QC/analysis, molecular biology techniques; or its equivalent. The candidate is expected to work independently with minimal supervision.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Assist/lead research projects involving custom recombinant protein expression, purification, and analytical characterization.
  • Assist in the development, refinement, and optimization of gene editing reagents to advance Cibus’s core technologies.
  • Execute research plans and experiments on a daily basis.
  • Manage resource and supervise personnel as needed for projects and experiments.
  • Recognize and identify IP values from research ideas and activities.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and troubleshooting related procedures.
  • Utilize a broad suite of general, theoretical, and practical molecular biology techniques to complete assigned tasks.
  • Communicate research findings through written reports and oral presentations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be independent, self-motivated, and enjoy working in a highly collaborative setting.

Knowledge, Experience, & Skills:

  • Direct hands-on experience in recombinant protein expression, purification, and characterization, using microbial, insect and/or plant systems is required. Familiarity with AKTA or equivalent systems is preferred.
  • Prior industry experience in agriculture or plant biology, or willingness to quickly transition into an industrial setting of scientific research is preferred.
  • Prior experience and/or knowledge of genome editing, preferably in plant systems is a plus.
  • Experience in bioinformatics including sequence analysis, structure-function analysis, protein modeling and protein engineering is a plus.
  • Broad scientific capabilities within plant molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology.
  • Ability to design and execute research projects independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Highly proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills, accurate record keeping, and attention to detail.
  • Strong foundation in following SOPs. Able to develop SOPs and perform troubleshooting on procedures.
