Cibus has an immediate opening for a Project Manager/Sr. Project Manager who will help us to revolutionize plant breeding using our unique, gene editing technology by managing our projects more efficiently and effectively. This position will assist Cibus in developing a strong Project Management Office to better discover and develop next generation gene editing targets that will improve crop health and agriculture sustainability.

The successful applicant will have deep expertise in project management and a demonstrated ability to work in a complex multidisciplinary matrix environment. A strong record of leadership, team play, and enabling success in others are essential. The Project/Sr. Project Manager is responsible for providing project management to one or more crop/traits project teams and responsibilities will include:

  • Assist with the development, refinement, management, and communication of high quality and optimized plans and processes.
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct the administrative, project control and technical science personnel involved in providing feedback in alignment with project requirements.
  • Work with project leaders to develop and maintain project plans, MS Project schedules, action items, and associated risk mitigation strategies.
  • Work with project leaders and subject matter experts (SMEs) to support timely, efficient, and action-oriented project team meetings.
  • Provide the team lead with project status reporting mechanisms that include timelines, milestones, action items tracking, risk mitigation strategy tracking and reporting metrics.
  • Work with the project leaders to coordinate team operations and communications.
  • Works with project leaders and SMEs to coordinate and resolve cross functional issues and constraints.
  • May be responsible for supervising one or more Project Management Associates.
  • Work within the Project Management Office (PMO) to develop, support, maintain, and improve policies, practices, processes, and tools.

Position Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist project leaders with the development, implementation, and maintenance of Project Plans that include but are not limited to the following
    • Assist with the development of the Scope of Work (SOW), and the execution and maintenance of associated project plans/schedules.
    • Assist with the development and maintenance of product concept sheets.
    • Assist with resource planning and ensure both personnel and CapEx functional area resources are sufficient to achieve project goals and objectives.
    • Assist with the management and status of schedule milestones, timelines, and deliverables to ensure on-time delivery within budget.
    • Support the development and maintenance of action items and risk identification and mitigation strategies.
      • Provide leadership to the team and functional areas to assist in impacting visibility concerning project issues that pose a challenge to achieving goals on time and on budget.
      • Use action items and risk mitigation plans/strategies and any other tools to assure and foster an environment of execution.
      • With the team leader and legal colleagues, as necessary, identify results that warrant discovery disclosures, patents, publications, etc.
    • Provide leadership to the team and functional areas to assist in impacting visibility concerning project issues that pose a challenge to achieving goals on time and on budget.
    • Use action items and risk mitigation plans/strategies and any other tools to assure and foster an environment of execution.
    • With the team leader and legal colleagues, as necessary, identify results that warrant discovery disclosures, patents, publications, etc.
    • Support project team meeting binders including agenda, action items, and minutes.
  • Enable project communications to inform project stakeholders, knowledgeable, and current with project status.
  • When a project is carried out under a contract, monitor the contract to assure that all requirements are met, and deviations documented.
  • Work closely with finance and the project teams to forecast and track resources and budgets.
  • Assist with the organization of project management support for functional areas on the project; attend project team and sub-team meetings; organize ad hoc working groups.
  • Work with project leaders to guide the smooth transition of projects between development phases and material handoffs within Cibus and with external partners.
  • Work with the project leaders to ensure project work complies with established practices, policies, and processes and develop new practices, policies, and processes as needed.
  • Contributes to the research, development, and commercial project strategies.
  • Work with the project leader and the project team to present to the Research Committee, SAB, external partners, and other stakeholders for major strategic and operational decisions.
  • Track recommendations for resolution of technical problems and provide project management oversight to assigned project lead personnel within Cibus internal and external partners ensuring the highest quality of task completion and deliverables in accordance with the project requirements.
  • Assists in the building and fostering of best project management practices through the Project Management Office.

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:

  • Must understand and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards of project management.
  • Bachelor of Science or MBA in scientific, business, or a related field with at least 4-5 years of experience for the Project Manager level and 6-7 years for the Sr. Project Manager level
  • Experience should include 4-5 or 6-7 years of relevant experience participation in cross-functional project management activities in various stages of research and development.
  • Demonstrated experience in Project Management fundamentals: Initiating, Planning, Scheduling, Monitoring & Controlling, Executing, and Closing of Projects.
  • Expertise in the development of scope of work and project plans.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Line management supervisory experience is desirable.
  • Must be able to understand and communicate scientific and business elements associated with the crops/traits of assigned projects.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to support complex multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Must be self-motivated and flexible in the face of changing priorities.
  • Must possess advanced knowledge and skill with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint as well as other reporting and tracking tools.
  • Direct experience in managing multi-task projects of various types and complexity.
  • Work with our finance team to translate project plans into financial plans.
  • PMP Certification, while not required, is highly desirable.
