The company has a worldwide presence, with subsidiaries in Europe and North America and a state-of-the-art research and development center in San Diego. Cibus has a pipeline of traits for canola and rice and is developing crop platforms and a pipeline of trait products in other major global crops including soybean, corn, and wheat. The broad applicability of Cibus’ technologies is highlighted by the company’s strain-advancement program, which develops sustainable products in microbial platforms for the food, flavor and fragrance, and personal care markets.
Cibus has an immediate opening for a Scientist – Protein Engineering who will help us to revolutionize plant breeding using our unique, gene editing technology. This position will drive in the lab efforts for an exciting new project that will greatly improve global agricultural sustainability. The successful applicant will have deep expertise using microbial and in vitro systems to build assays to monitor and evolve enzyme activities. A demonstrated ability to leverage computational approaches and collaborate across functional teams is essential. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to grow and influence in a dynamic company focused on cutting edge gene editing technology.
Role Responsibilities:
- Be part of a talented team of scientists who use cutting edge protein and enzyme engineering technologies to identify new gene editing targets for next-generation crop traits involved in weed control, disease resistance, nitrogen use, and oil quality.
- Lead and execute laboratory experiments to build new enzyme assays and use directed and random approaches to evolve catalytic activities.
- Integrate with the Computational Biology team to predict new target opportunities and jump start in the lab efforts.
- Identify and implement opportunities to grow the technology platform.
- Collaborate with Technology Development, Crop, and Production teams to transfer new targets into the gene editing pipeline.
- Provide subject matter and scientific expertise across the company.
- Mentor/supervise junior team members and help to grow a rapidly expanding team.
