Cibus has an immediate opening for a Controlled Environment Operations Associate to help us to revolutionize plant breeding.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Support the operational requirements of growth room facilities and including space planning, storage, and maintenance of the facility inventory.
  • Develop proposals for cultivation systems improvements with Greenhouse Operations team and coordinate plan for implementation.
  • Supervise contractors and technicians on installation and maintenance projects related to warehouse storage and growth room facilities.
  • Coordinate with different stakeholders on cultivation and storage scheduling, this includes ensuring that the climate control systems are functioning.
  • Participate in the improvement of controlled environment infrastructure or processes as needed.

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated expertise in the following areas: plant propagation methods, plant nutrients, soil and growth media, automated irrigation systems, Conviron or Percival plant growth chambers
  • Familiarity with local greenhouse and/or horticultural supply vendors and procurement strategies.
  • Experience working with field row crops in a controlled environment facility (greenhouse or growth chamber) is a plus.
  • Managing inventory and scheduling

Core Capabilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and motivational skills, accurate record keeping, and attention to detail.
  • Able to use judgment and make routine recommendations for resolving problems in moderately complex assignments.
  • Basic proficiency in Excel and MS Office suite is a must.
  • Manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong foundation in following SOPs. Able to develop and review SOPs and perform troubleshooting on procedures.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in routine to achieve objectives.
  • Coaching and supervisory responsibilities may include supervision of interns and assistant level support staff.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in greenhouse or indoor grow, including lifting, bending, standing, and tolerating high temperatures for brief periods is required.
  • Must be able to lift 20-50 lbs with or without accommodation, help with logistics and movement of plant materials between sites
  • Must be able to work in high temperature and humidity conditions periodically throughout the summer months.
  • Willing to obtain a pesticide applicator’s license.
  • Willing to monitor plants and experiments during the weekend on a rotating schedule or as needed.
  • Willing to travel to offsite greenhouse and field station locations in San Diego area to conduct business and project needs.
