Cibus has an immediate opening for a Senior Associate, Molecular Discovery who will help us to revolutionize plant breeding using our unique, gene editing technology. This position will perform molecular biology and gene cloning work and help to build functional complementation assays to discover next generation gene editing targets that will improve plant health and fitness. The successful applicant will have strong understanding and hands on experience with a variety of Molecular Biology and gene cloning technologies. Experience with functional complementation in bacteria, yeast, plants, or other organisms is also desired. Role Responsibilities:

  • Be a strong contributing member of laboratory discovery team focused on identifying new gene editing targets for next-generation crop traits such as weed control, sustainability, disease resistance, nitrogen use, and oil quality.
  • Execute Molecular Biology and gene cloning experiments and help build microbial functional complementation assays.
  • Collaborate across functional teams to provide Molecular Biology support and expertise.
  • Positively influence junior team members.


  • Bachelors or master’s degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent relevant experience at a similar level. A minimum of 2+ years’ experience with bachelor’s or 0 to 2 years’ experience with Masters.
  • Demonstrated hands on experience with a range of Molecular Biology and gene cloning technologies.
  • An understanding of gene editing technology and experience with functional complementation assays in bacteria, yeast, or other systems is desired.
  • Design and analyze routine experiments with minimal guidance. Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple tasks to completion and overcome challenges.
  • Follow SOPs and properly maintain a research notebook. Independently contribute to SOP troubleshooting and writing.
  • Proactive communicator with demonstrated ability to prepare progress reports using oral and written strategies.
  • Capable of success in a highly collaborative and matrixed work environment.
  • Prior experience working in an agricultural biotech and/or plant biology environment is desired, but not essential.
