Cibus has an immediate opening for a Senior Associate – Plant Disease Tolerance Trait Discovery. The successful applicant will have strong Molecular Biology and/or Plant Biotechnology experience with an understanding of gene editing and plant disease and pathology. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to grow in a dynamic environment focused on cutting edge gene editing technology.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Work as a key member of a team dedicated to developing new gene edited traits to control plant disease and pests in agriculturally important crops.
  • Independently plan and execute molecular cloning experiments to build DNA constructs and other molecular tools. Run gene expression and other functional assays in cell and plant systems.
  • Work with Computational and Protein Biology teams to help uncover and validate new gene editing targets.
  • Communicate project updates in reports and functional team meetings.
  • Positively influence junior team members. Have an opportunity to grow into a supervisory role in a rapidly expanding team.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, Plant Biology, Biochemistry, or related field with 2-5 years of experience or M.S. with 0-2 years of experience.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience with a range of Molecular Biology technologies including cloning, PCR, qPCR and other DNA/RNA manipulations.
  • Practical experience with functional assays in cell and/or plant systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to overcome technical challenges with creative solutions.
  • Understanding of scientific principals and demonstrated ability to independently exercise technical discretion with experimental design, execution, and interpretation.
  • Understanding and interest in gene editing technologies and plant biology.
  • Proactive communicator with demonstrated success using oral and written strategies to communicate project status and direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to positively influence others with a long-term interest to supervise junior team members.
  • Ability to be independent, self-motivated, and enjoy working in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Prior experience working in an agricultural biotech and/or plant biology environment is desired, but not essential.
