The broad applicability of Cibus’ technologies is highlighted by the company’s strain-advancement program, which develops sustainable products in microbial platforms for the food, flavor and fragrance, and personal care markets.

Cibus has an immediate opening for a Quality Engineer (QE). The QE is responsible for interpreting, building upon and complying with company quality standards. This position serves as a primary point of contact and liaison with Commercial, Product Development, and Production departments to ensure that edited traits are produced in compliance with company quality standards. The position requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field and a minimum of 5 years of manufacturing or quality assurance experience.

The successful applicant will play a central role in establishing and implementing our quality system. The QE will implement quality metrics, monitor quality standards, create documentation, devise quality tests, and define the acceptance criteria. The QE will also oversee process and equipment validations.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Establish quality metrics for the trait production process
  • Implement processes to inspect, test and evaluate the reliability of the production processes and equipment
  • Facilitate and manage non-conformance and customer complaint processes
  • Establish process for inspection and testing of incoming material and outgoing product to confirm quality conformance to specifications
  • Assist operations and quality assurance in tracking, documenting, and reporting quality levels as well as environmental and health and safety goals
  • Enable a culture of continuous improvement – collaborate with operations to identify opportunities for improvements to workflow and controls
  • Analyze manufacturing data and reports to identify trends in quality or defects with the goal of mitigating and preventing recurrence and future problems
  • Identify root causes of problems and recommends/implements corrective measures


  • Bachelor’s degree in quality, industrial or mechanical engineering or related technical field
  • The candidate must have 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing and 3+ years in quality assurance or similar role
  • Hands on experience with Quality Management Systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Experience applying statistical methods to track and identify quality issues
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Visio, JMP or similar statistical software
  • Leads by example and willing to work side-by-side with reports while using positive strategies to establish a professional environment of trust, respect, and collaboration.
  • Has a strong sense of enablement with a demonstrated ability to achieve success through direct and indirect reporting responsibilities.
  • A skilled motivator, capable of influencing at all levels of an organization.
  • Strong proactive communicator with demonstrated success using both oral and written strategies to communicate project status, and direction.

  • Strong organizational skills and capable of identifying and managing external interactions such as service providers and other collaborations.
  • Capable of achieving success in a dynamic and fast-paced production and/or R&D environment, as well as a strong promoter and implementer of change.
  • Prior experience working in life science or an agricultural biotech and/or plant biology environment is highly desired.
