Rice Herbicide Tolerant traits
Our rice herbicide tolerance traits -- HT1 and HT3 alone --represent over $200 million in potential annual royalty revenue across our initial target geographies in the United States and Latin America. These traits are progressing on schedule toward targeted initial launches in Latin America beginning in 2027 and expanding to the United States in 2028, which would generate initial royalty revenue and set the stage for further opportunities in the immense global rice seed market.
Rice is a staple diet for more than half the global population and a major source of protein and calorie intake for billions, especially in Asia, South America and Sub-Saharan Africa. Several million acres globally are under rice cultivation and it is a high priority to feed a growing population using sustainable, long-term and high yielding solutions. Cibus is leading on those fronts by applying its cutting edge gene editing technology to develop herbicide tolerant traits which would offer improved resistance and weed management solution to growers around the world.

Our traits for herbicide tolerance traits in our rice pipeline have been filed and cleared by USDA APHIS “Am I Regulated” process (https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ourfocus/biotechnology/am-i-regulated) and will be regulated in the US as products from traditional breeding. We have successfully transferred elite germplasm containing our herbicide tolerance trait back to several of our customers, who are now preparing for commercial launch of these new products.
