The position will help to run and maintain an automated high-throughput molecular screening platform supporting Cibus' patented RTDS™ gene editing technology. The successful applicant will be expected to assist with all aspects of the screening workflow including operation of a liquid handling system for DNA extraction and automated genotyping. Responsibilities will involve sample preparation, reagent preparation, initiating qPCR and NGS reactions, running the liquid handling platform, data analysis and data reporting. The initial term of the internship is for 3 months, with the possibility of a longer term extension based on business needs. Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a minimum M.Sc. degree (Assistant Breeder) or Ph.D degree/M.Sc. plus relevant experience in a commercial breeding role (Breeder), in one of the agricultural sciences such as Plant Science, Plant Breeding & Genetics, Agronomy, or related. We have an immediate opening for a Computational Genomics Scientist who can help us revolutionize plant breeding using our unique, patented RTDS™ gene editing technology to produce sustainable agricultural products by safely harnessing Nature’s own genetic diversity. A Ph.D. degree in Genomics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genetics, Plant Biology, or related field, or similar level with equivalent experience. A minimum of 2 years’ postdoctoral experience in a research & development environment is required, or a MA/MS degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience, or a BA/BS degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for building and applying state-of-the-art genome analysis capabilities to bridge the genotype-phenotype gap, and provide genomic solutions at all stages of the RTDS™ pipeline from project initiation to commercial production. Genomics applications will include gene discovery and genome editing in plants and microbes, as well as trait discovery and genomics-assisted breeding in agricultural crops. Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop and apply state-of-the-art genomics workflows (from raw data through analysis and visualization to hypothesis generation) to solve complex biological problems.
  • Expertise in comparative genomics, evolutionary genomics, population genomics, gene expression and regulation, and transcriptomics.
  • Hands-on experience with genome annotation, (pan)genome analysis, genomic variation (SNP, CNV, PAV), and genomic marker discovery.

  • Troubleshoot existing processes and protocols to improve breeding timelines.
  • Maintain an organized seed inventory.

Knowledge, Experience, Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of multi-year breeding project timelines.
  • Familiarity with genotyping using PCR based marker tools.
  • Familiarity with marker assisted selection strategies in breeding and population development projects.
  • Familiarity with crossing designs in a breeding program.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Integrated Pest Management principles and practices, plant propagation and culture methods is required.
  • Familiarity with fertilizers and pesticides, greenhouse and growth chamber lighting and control systems is required.
  • Prior experience using plant breeding software is a plus.
  • Prior experience in tissue culture is a plus.

Cibus LLC, a leading Agricultural Biotechnology company in San Diego CA, has an immediate opening for a Research Associate in Cell Biology. The selected candidate will participate in the application of Cibus’ core RTDS™ Technology to develop new traits in plants, focusing on the cell biology aspects.

Requirements:

B.Sc. in plant/cell biology, plant biotechnology, plant physiology or related field.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experiments involving plant cell and tissue culture (protoplast techniques, somatic embryogenesis, suspension cultures, shoot regeneration, micropropagation) and DNA delivery methods.
  • Investigate, create and develop new methods and technologies for project advancement and to further understand the cellular processes involved in the application of Cibus’ proprietary technology.
  • Utilize scientific literature to design experiments and improve methods
  • Perform quantitative analysis, prepare technical reports, protocols, written and oral presentations.
  • Participate in the preparation and improvement of SOPs.

Knowledge, Experience, Skills:

  • Experience working with aseptic techniques, cell and tissue cultures.
  • Familiarity with microscopy, microphotography, imaging software, and cytometry is desirable.
