Description:

Cibus US LLC, a leading Agricultural Biotechnology company in San Diego, CA, has an immediate opening for a Research Specialist position to participate in the application of Cibus' proprietary technology (RTDS™) to develop new traits related to the control of plant diseases. Along with a team of researchers, the successful applicant will be responsible for effective execution of laboratory activities to progress a variety of scientific evaluations. Position duties include application of biochemical methods to evaluate plant-microbe interactions and mentoring of junior staff.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have at least a M.Sc. or B.Sc. degree in biochemistry, plant molecular biology or plant pathology with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in commercial and/or academic setting exploring plant proteins using techniques such as Westerns, protein pull down assays, enzyme kinetics and others. Candidates with extensive experience in utilizing such techniques in systems other than plants may also be considered depending on overall qualifications.

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

  • Experience in plant protein-protein interaction studies
  • Extensive skills with Westerns, protein pull down assays, enzyme kinetics and other related techniques.
  • Technical skills spanning molecular biology, microbiology, statistics and basic bioinformatics.
  • Ability to exercise technical discretion in the design, execution of experiments and interpretation of data.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, summaries and protocols.
  • Ability to effectively mentor junior staff and/or interns.

Sales and Product Manager

Position Description:

Cibus is in the business of developing value-added traits that provide unique and differentiated products to our customers. These traits may be delivered to the customers through the sale or license of seeds that carry the unique traits. The Sales and Product Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the commercialization of Cibus’ new canola and flax products including those listed below.

Position Responsibilities

Specific job duties include:

  • Primary focus on North American canola – in particular Canada. As needed, provide support for the marketing of new crops and traits such as North American flax.
  • Build and implement a plan for a sales channel to effectively sell Cibus products.
    • Identify channel partners.
    • Propose value sharing proposition necessary to incentivize channel.
    • Negotiate contracts with channel partners.
  • Develop and support sales channel.
    • Hire and manage sales personnel to support sales channel.
    • Develop programs to provide agronomic support and product information to the sales channel.
    • Represent Cibus technology and corporate image to targeted sales distribution and farmer groups.
  • Build and implement a plan to effectively license Cibus traits and genetics to industry canola and flax seed companies.
    • Identify partners.
    • Propose value sharing proposition necessary to incentivize channel.
    • Negotiate contracts with channel partners.
    • License Cibus traits to industry seed companies.
  • Work with the sales and marketing teams to properly position Cibus products.
  • Develop a marketing plan for Cibus products which will include:
    • Collect price lists from the competition and develop a pricing strategy for the Cibus products.
    • Develop sales volume projections.
    • Conduct product lifecycle analysis and plans.
    • Participate in the development of promotions and advertising – i.e. increase brand awareness of Cibus at the farm gate.
    • Work closely with Cibus advertising and marketing agencies.
    • Lead the discussions around anticipated demand for the new products.
    • Identify and work with grain partners (i.e. Cargill) to develop new and creative ways to market Cibus products.
  • Analyze the market to understand competitive space and develop a strategy to effectively position Cibus’ new products.
  • Work with Finance to develop financial analysis and projections for Cibus products.
  • Contribute and support sales goals and volumes for budget planning.
  • Work with Product Development to identify trials needed to provide data which better support the launch and growth of new products.

Education, Experience and Related Skills:

  • B.S. degree in an agricultural field such as Agronomy, Ag Business, and Crop Science with 10-15 years of relevant experience; or its equivalent.
  • Previous experience working for a Seed Company is highly desirable.
  • Significant and demonstrable success in developing and managing a successful sales and marketing program.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to collect and interpret data to determine market trends and apply the learning to develop new product concept possibilities.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial, science, and agronomic reports and other legal and contract documents.
  • Ability to define problems, collect and critically analyze data, establish facts, draw valid inferences and provide creative solutions.

Temporary Intern – Product Development/Greenhouse NEW

Description:

Cibus US LLC, a leading Agricultural Biotechnology company in San Diego CA, has an immediate opening for a Field Intern position in the Product Development department. This position will be involved in supporting day-to-day operations of a local research plot, as well as interacting with product development staff to support canola quality testing and additional field testing needs.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline and a minimum of 0 to 2 years’ experience in an agriculture and/or field research environment is desired; or its equivalent.

Role responsibilities:

  • Assist in performing all duties associated with the culture of a high quality research trial. These duties may include: planting, transplanting, thinning, irrigating, scouting for insects and diseases, weeding and/or spraying, harvesting, notetaking, seed packet filling, and seed processing.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of field trials that meet product development needs.
  • Regular travel with company vehicle to off-site research location in San Diego county.
  • Problem-solving skills and desire to continually improve methods for high-quality data collection.

Knowledge, experience, skills:

  • Previous research and agriculture experience in field crops is a plus.
  • Familiarity with designing field trials, drip and overhead irrigation setup, and pest identification and control is a plus.
  • Must be able to lift 20-50 pounds with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to work under outdoor field conditions, including: lifting, bending, tolerating high temperatures and humidity, and limited exposure to allergens for brief periods of time is required.

Core capabilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational and motivational skills, accurate record keeping, and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with basic statistical analysis and experimental design principles is a plus.
  • Able to use judgment to resolve problems and troubleshoot routine assignments.
  • Familiarity with Excel and MS Office suite.
  • Ability to multi-task routine assignments, ensuring a high degree of accuracy and precision.
  • Able to follow SOPs.
  • Ability to adapt to minor changes in routine to achieve objectives.
