Sales and Product Manager

Location: Canada Southern Manitoba (Winnipeg) or Southern Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, Regina)

Position Description:

Cibus is in the business of developing value-added traits that provide unique and differentiated products to our customers. These traits may be delivered to the customers through the sale or license of seeds that carry the unique traits. The Sales and Product Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the commercialization of Cibus’ new canola and flax products including those listed below.

Position Responsibilities

Specific job duties include:

  • Primary focus on North American canola – in particular Canada. As needed, provide support for the marketing of new crops and traits such as North American flax.
  • Build and implement a plan for a sales channel to effectively sell Cibus products.
    • Identify channel partners.
    • Propose value sharing proposition necessary to incentivize channel.
    • Negotiate contracts with channel partners.
  • Develop and support sales channel.
    • Hire and manage sales personnel to support sales channel.
    • Develop programs to provide agronomic support and product information to the sales channel.
    • Represent Cibus technology and corporate image to targeted sales distribution and farmer groups.
  • Build and implement a plan to effectively license Cibus traits and genetics to industry canola and flax seed companies.
    • Identify partners.
    • Propose value sharing proposition necessary to incentivize channel.
    • Negotiate contracts with channel partners.
    • License Cibus traits to industry seed companies.
  • Work with the sales and marketing teams to properly position Cibus products.
  • Develop a marketing plan for Cibus products which will include:
    • Collect price lists from the competition and develop a pricing strategy for the Cibus products.
    • Develop sales volume projections.
    • Conduct product lifecycle analysis and plans.
    • Participate in the development of promotions and advertising – i.e. increase brand awareness of Cibus at the farm gate.
    • Work closely with Cibus advertising and marketing agencies.
    • Lead the discussions around anticipated demand for the new products.
    • Identify and work with grain partners (i.e. Cargill) to develop new and creative ways to market Cibus products.
  • Analyze the market to understand competitive space and develop a strategy to effectively position Cibus’ new products.
  • Work with Finance to develop financial analysis and projections for Cibus products.
  • Contribute and support sales goals and volumes for budget planning.
  • Work with Product Development to identify trials needed to provide data which better support the launch and growth of new products.

Education, Experience and Related Skills:

  • B.S. degree in an agricultural field such as Agronomy, Ag Business, and Crop Science with 10-15 years of relevant experience; or its equivalent.
  • Previous experience working for a Seed Company is highly desirable.
  • Significant and demonstrable success in developing and managing a successful sales and marketing program.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to collect and interpret data to determine market trends and apply the learning to develop new product concept possibilities.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial, science, and agronomic reports and other legal and contract documents.
  • Ability to define problems, collect and critically analyze data, establish facts, draw valid inferences and provide creative solutions.
